Gilbert’s Heritage District is focusing on future development by upgrading its infrastructure and design, aiming to create a more cohesive and lively Downtown. This includes a new vision for Water Tower Plaza.
The plaza requires significant underground infrastructure repairs due to outdated systems and unavailable replacement parts. The construction phase involves necessary concrete repairs and will lead to the removal of several existing park features.
Upon reopening, Water Tower Plaza will feature new additions such as a shaded, water-efficient splash pad, modern restroom facilities, an event lawn, a recirculated water wall, a shaded picnic grove with integrated seating, and enhancements to landscaping and lighting. The current phase is construction, which started on January 8th, 2023, with the park’s reopening scheduled for Fall 2024.
